CHAPTER 37 - Chapter 37
Upon entering the campus of Sky University, Su Yuchen slowed his pace, creating some distance between himself and Xia Yushuang. For him, it wasn’t about the possibility of her pursuers knowing about their connection; he was more ‘afraid’ of being seen by Senior Tia.
Regardless, until he figured out how to break the streak of misfortunes, he couldn’t let Tia Yufei become suspicious.
“Are you pursuing Senior Tia?” Xia Yushuang matched his slower pace. “A plot only seen in anime has happened to you, so you have unlimited fantasies about the beautiful blonde Senior Sister?”
After a brief moment of thought, Su Yuchen replied in the softest tone possible, “I asked her for a favor, so…”
“What favor?”
Su Yuchen glanced at her. “Everyone has things they need to do.”
The unspoken message of ‘don’t ask too much’ was clear enough. Xia Yushuang clicked her tongue and quickened her steps.
Su Yuchen’s expression remained unchanged as he withdrew his gaze from her back.
Who was more important to him between Xia Yushuang and Tia Yufei?
Answer: Childhood friend.
Clearly, to figure out how to break the ‘misfortune,’ he needed to switch between ‘liking’ and ‘disliking.’ Thus, experimenting on the relatively unimportant Senior Tia would involve less psychological burden.
If he told Xia Yushuang the truth, she would probably cooperate willingly, but if it got too ‘hurtful,’ he’d rather not say it to her, especially since she prepared breakfast for him every day.
As for her current unhappiness… Su Yuchen sighed softly; he believed she wouldn’t stay mad for long.
But he was ultimately using her goodwill toward him.
“I still have the potential to be a scumbag… tsk.”
Chuckling in self-ridicule, Su Yuchen pulled out the vibrating phone from his pocket.
Thankfully, it was on silent mode; otherwise, it would have embarrassed him with the incoming ringtone.
“Big brother!”
As soon as he answered the call, Su Yuxi’s voice entered his ears, “Are you close to the school? Today is another day I miss my brother.”
Unless it was because of something Brother himself did that upset her, she would never reveal her unhappiness in front of him—the ‘truth’ that Su Yuxi adhered to.
Hearing his sister’s lively voice, a smile unconsciously appeared on Su Yuchen’s lips. “Almost there. You woke up quite early today.”
“Hmph, I wake up early every day. You just don’t see it.”
“You sure know how to talk. Who was it that lingered in my bed, refusing to get up even after the sun was high up?”
“Who made brother come home so rarely, that’s why it’s brother’s fault!”
While speaking, Su Yuxi glanced at the bedsheet. In her room, it was easy to tell that the sheet, bed cover, and pillowcases didn’t match because none of them belonged to her.
“You blame others for not being able to get up by yourself?” Su Yuchen’s tone turned slightly serious. “And Mid-Autumn Festival is less than a week away. Are you ready?”
“Of course!” Su Yuxi’s tone didn’t change. “Yuxi follows brother steadfastly, never wavering!”
“For that, Yuxi has been working very hard.”
“Great.”
“Hehe~” Su Yuxi happily raised her legs a bit. “Praise me more, and I’ll strive even harder.”
“After Mid-Autumn Festival, I’ll give you a big reward.”
“What? What? What is it?”
“It’s a secret. Just look forward to it.”
Sitting on the bed, Su Yuxi’s eyes sparkled. Her immediate thought was a very nice photo that her brother might give her… no, no, no, her brother wouldn’t have inappropriate thoughts like she did for sure.
Thinking this, she felt a little sad again…
“Then I’ll be looking forward to it with crossed fingers.” Su Yuxi replied. “No matter what Brother gives me, I’ll be super happy.”
“Provided you complete your task,” Su Yuchen said softly. “If you don’t perform well, I’ll criticize you.”
“I promise to complete the task!”
Hearing the noise on the other end of the phone, Su Yuchen pictured Yuxi instantly leaping from the bed to the floor and standing straight, saluting.
“Okay, do your best.”
“Understood!”
Su Yuchen ended the call, and just as expected, Su Yuxi, hearing the busy signal from her phone, blinked. He hung up just like that?
“Wow! Brother is so mean, always diverting my attention!”
Letting go of her saluting hand, Su Yuxi hummed and speculated about the reward her brother might give before happily going to the dressing table to get ready.
The Northern Border of the Empire, under the jurisdiction of Chang’an Kingdom, was vast, so there are many things to do every day.
…
Arriving at the sports field, ten minutes before military training began, as Su Yuchen sat on the lawn, a voice chimed in, “Hey brother, where did you go for lunch with that pretty senior yesterday?”
It wasn’t Song Xinghui but another classmate from the same class, a Westerner named Cole Raphael.
His Xuanqing dialect was quite fluent, and his tone was friendly.
“That’s nice, having a senior take care of you right after enrollment… and she’s the former vice president of the school’s student union.”
As soon as he said that, Su Yuchen understood the guy’s intentions. He wanted to leverage his relationship with Senior Tia to climb higher by using the influence of the former vice president of the school’s student union.
Looking at the guy’s slightly wandering gaze, Su Yuchen couldn’t help but recall his own naive self when he entered university in his previous life…
Even if this person had that intention, he shouldn’t have just blurted it out. Su Yuchen felt he probably wouldn’t become a class president now.
“Senior Tia was also the former vice president of the student union?”
“Don’t you know?” Cole seemed surprised. “Your relationship seemed so close.”
“It’s not that close,” Su Yuchen said casually. “She just has a twisted sense of playing with the emotions of freshmen.”
“Is that so?”
“She didn’t come yesterday afternoon, did she?”
“Yeah…” Cole looked a bit regretful and turned away.
As the assembly whistle blew, Su Yuchen stood up and walked into the formation. Standing beside him, Song Xinghui spoke softly, “You’re not planning to run for class president? You have such a strong backing.”
“Not interested.”
“Well, with that senior sister around, even if you’re not a class committee member or part of the student union, no one would dare bully you,” Song Xinghui chuckled softly. “I probably won’t stand a chance to be the class president.”
“Why’s that?”
“See that girl, the eighth one on the left in the first row? Don’t underestimate her because she’s a girl; she’s got skills. In one night, she’s already secured half the votes.”
Song Xinghui squinted. “Against her, nobody in the Xuanqing Empire stands a chance.”
Su Yuchen glanced forward; let alone in the Magic Engineering Department, her appearance was remarkable even considering the whole school.
Sun and Moon Country, Yae Mitsuha.
